Life in Ballard
Ballard residents get the best of both worlds – a rich and storied history and an increasingly hip present. Potential homeowners are bound to love this neighborhood. You’ll need a realtor in Ballard to help you.
Ballard is located at the northwestern edge of Seattle. The neighborhood is bounded by Puget Sound’s Shillshole Bay in the west, Crown Hill in the north, Lake Washington Ship Canal in the south, and Greenwood, Phinney Ridge, and Fremont to the east.
The entire neighborhood is located within District 6 of the Seattle City Council. This district also includes Crown Hill, Phinney Ridge, and Green Lake.
Like its neighbors, home styles in Ballard are also dominated by Craftsman, Cape Cod, Dutch Colonial, and Victorian architecture.
Ballard was largely affected of the 21st century trend to replace older and smaller houses with newer and larger ones. In 2016, Seattle builders began tearing down an average of one house per day to be replaced. Ballard was the most affected area, followed by the Central District.
Ballard is home to a diverse group of residents and the many commercial establishments in the area know this well.
There are people who want a lively pub scene at night. There are people who enjoy the quiet early morning market. There are people who spend much of their time in salons and trendy shops.
Ballard Avenue offers many of these experiences. There are numerous restaurants, bars, shops, and even art space in this street.
- Hiram M. Chittenden Locks – this is a complex of locks that can be considered as an engineering marvel because of the well-orchestrated mechanics surrounding it.
- Underwater Observatory – Visitors can watch the salmon swimming up, making their way towards Lake Washington.
- Golden Gardens Park – one of the very few sandy beaches in Seattle, people can enjoy having barbecues, flying kites, and building sandcastles.
- Ballard Farmer’s Market – every Sunday, people can swing by and buy fresh produce. Ballard Avenue is also closed down to make way for the local growers and vendors.
